The Ramanujam School of Mathematics & Computer Science has two departments.
1. Department of Mathematics is offering M.Sc Mathematics, M.Phil Mathematics (Full time), Ph.D Mathematics (Full time), Part-time (internal & external).
2. Department of Computer Science is offering M.Sc Computer Science, M.C.A (Master of Computer Application), M.Tech Computer Science & Engg., Ph.D Computer Science & Engg. Part-time (Internal & External).

1. Department of Mathematics

The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) gives an annual grant of about 5 Lakhs for procuring books and journals for the library. Further, NBHM offers two scholarships each for first and second year M.Sc. (Rs 1200/- per month) annually.

Entrance Examination
The question paper for admission to M.Sc. Mathematics will comprise of objective type questions at the B.Sc. level.  A majority of questions will be on the following topics: sets, sequences, series, limits, continuity, differentiation, integration, complex variable, group theory, vector spaces, matrices, determinant, linear transformations, rank, nullity, eigenvalues of linear maps, elementary probability, vector calculus and ordinary differential equations.

The question paper for admission to M.Sc. Statistics will comprise of objective type questions at the B.Sc. level.

For admission to M.Phil. /Ph.D. the questions  will be of objective type at  the  M.Sc. level. A majority of questions will be drawn from algebra, topology, functional analysis, linear algebra, real analysis, complex analysis, graph theory, discrete mathematics, analytical dynamics, number theory, differential equations, fluid mechanics and basic probability.

Infrastructure facilities
The department has a well-equipped computer laboratory and a library. Various mathematical softwares are available.

2. Department of Computer Science

The Department aims at imparting quality education in Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology through various post-graduate programmes. It also offers an atmosphere conducive for research scholars for pursuing research in various advanced areas of Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology.

Eligibility Criteria

Ph.D. (Full-time) (Minimum Duration: 3 years)

For Ph.D. in Computer Science, candidates possessing M.Tech in Computer Science / Computer Science and Engineering / M.Tech in Electronics and / or Communication Engg./ M.Tech in Electrical Engg. are eligible to apply.

M.Tech Computer Science & Engineering (Full-Time & Sponsored) (Normal Duration : 3 Semesters)
A candidate who has secured 60% marks or above in any one of the following or equivalent is eligible to apply. B.Tech/B.E. in Computer Science & Engineering (or) M.Sc. in Computer Science (or) M.C.A. with Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Electronics/Physics/Applied Sciences.

M.Tech Computer Science & Engineering (Part-Time) (Normal Duration : 4 Semesters)
Teachers/Technical Staff working in the University/Colleges/Schools or Scientific Personnel working in the State/Central Government establishment/Recognised Industries, located in and around Pondicherry and possessing the educational qualification prescribed for full-time course are eligible for part-time programme which will be conducted along with Full-time.

M.C.A. (Master of Computer Applications) (Duration : Six Semesters)
Candidates who have secured 55% of marks or above in (i) bachelor's degree in Computer Applications/ Commerce/ Corporate Secretaryship/ Economics/ Business Administration; (with Mathematics/ Business Mathematics/ Statistics/ Computer Applications as one of the subject)(or) (ii) bachelor's degree in Science with Mathematics/ Statistics as one of the subject are eligible to apply.

M.Sc Computer Science
Candidates with a first class bachelor's degree in Computer Science(Main); or a first class bachelor's degree in Science (Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Electronics) with first class P.G.Diploma in Computer applications are eligible to apply.

Entrance Examination

M.Sc.  Computer Science    The entrance examination is of objective type. The question paper will consist of 20 questions in general arithmetic and 70 from Data Structures and Algorithms, Digital Logic and Computer Organisation, Operating Systems, System Software, Microprocessors, SAD, DBMS, Automata, Programming Languages (C & C++) and Recent Trends in Computer Science.

M.C.A.:  Admission to M.C.A. is based on entrance examination followed by group discussion and interview. The entrance examination is of objective type. The question paper will consist of 90 questions covering the following topics:

·    Comprehension and verbal ability
·    Analytical ability
·    Logical reasoning
·    Mathematical aptitude (+2) and
·    General awareness in Computer Science.

M.Tech.  Computer Science & Engg.    Admission to M.Tech. is based on entrance examination followed by an interview. The written examination is of objective type. Questions will be from the following subjects: Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Architecture, Operating Systems, System Software, Microprocessors, DBMS, Networks, Compilers, Automata, AI, Graphics, Software Engineering, Programming Languages (C, C++ and Java) and Recent Trends in Computer Science.

Ph.D. Admission to Ph.D. is based on the entrance examination, presentation of the research topic followed by an interview.

Infrastructure facilities
The Department has four well-equipped computer laboratories housing about 100 state-of-art computer systems with latest configurations, all connected to various servers running Operating Systems like Windows NT, Linux Operating System, Sun Solaris and Mac OS. Grid Computing and Cluster Computing have also been facilitated in the servers. Intranet facility and Internet facility (2Mbps link) are also available.
