Department of Ocean Studies and Marine Biology
(JNRM Campus, Port Blair, Andamans)

The Department of Ocean Studies and Marine Biology is unique of its kind in the country, established for providing training and research in the fields of Ocean Studies , especially related to island environment. This Department was commenced as the Centre of Ocean and Island Studies in the year 2000-2001 and then upgraded in the year 2004. The Department is located in Port Blair, the picturesque capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and offers M.Sc. course in Marine Biology and undetake research work leading to Ph.D. degree

The main objective of this Department is to develop human resource to undertake Ocean and Island related studies with a thrust on the following areas: Biological Oceanography and its resource potentiality, Development of database on physical, chemical, geological oceanographic aspects along with marine environmental management.
