Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology was established in
January 1993 and the first batch of M.A and Ph.D. degree students
were admitted during the 1993-94 academic year. From its inception,
the Department has stressed the need for training human resources
required for the employment market and accordingly oriented its
curriculum and course work that emphasized application in addition
to sound theoretical understanding. Our instructional methods pay
special attention to developing skills in use of computers not only
for data analysis but also as a tool for sourcing information and
accessing databases around the world through the internet. Our
alumni students are employed in such reputed organizations as WIPRO
and Ramco Systems as well as in State and Central Government
concerns. A few have found lucrative employment in countries such as
North America, Middle East and Southeast Asia.
The research areas undertaken by students and faculty members cover
Human Resource Management, Development and Health Policy, Dual
Career Families and Family Policy, Sociology of Nursing,
Non-Governmental Organization and Social Change, Sophisticated
Causal Modeling of Health Seeking Behaviour and collecting and
analyzing primary data on Communities in the neighborhood.

Ph.D. Sociology
Entrance Examination
The entrance examination for Ph.D. will consist of questions on
social theories and research methodology at the P.G. level.
