The Department of Commerce aims
at training the commerce graduates with professional skills required to
handle the ‘Finance Function’ in large sized corporate
enterprises. The P.G. programme is to impart knowledge and skills
required to take up activities like Investment and Portfolio
Management, Security Market Operations, Forex dealings, Accounts for
Managers, General Management, Taxation Management, Treasury Management
and Management of Mutual Funds and NBFCs, etc.
The students belonging to this programme find placements in finance
divisions of major MNCs like IBM, FORD, Fund Management & Stock
Broking companies like M/s Karvey Consultants, software companies
concentrating on Accounting Solutions, in addition to a good number of
placements in Banking and Insurance sectors.
The Department offers Ph.D. programme in the fields of Finance,
Banking, Marketing and Personnel Management.

Entrance Examination
The admission for all the course is based on national
level entrance examination. The entrance examination for admission to
M.Com. (Business Finance) degree programme consists of objective type
questions. These questions are mostly aimed at assessing the
candidates’ basic understanding of concepts in subject at B.Com.
level. The areas include Management concepts, Accounting, Banking,
Organizational Behaviour, Taxation, Insurance, Costing, Statistics,
Auditing. Legal aspects of Business, Business Economics, Foreign Trade,
Corporate Secretaryship, Cooperation and such alike.
The admission for M.Phil. programme consists of entrance test aimed at
assessing the advanced knowledge of the student at his/her P.G. level
courses. It is mostly objective type. It is followed by an interview
for assessing the students’ field of interest and communications
skills.
The admission for Ph.D. programme is open twice a year. Based on the
vacancies available with eligible guides and the field of
Specialization that a scholar wants to pursue, the admission
formalities are carried out by inviting the candidates for a written
test and an oral interview wherein the candidates have to make a
presentation on their proposed topic before a selection committee.
Infrastructure facilities
The Department has been housed in Science and
Humanities Block II (IFloor). Airy and spacey classrooms with a
Computer lab. (seven P-4 systems) with internet connection, Xeroxing
facility, Overhead 2 LCD projectors for presentations constitute the
basic infrastructure. A 24 hour internet facility with access to CMIE
Prowess data base, SPSS statistical Software package, on-line journals
from Science Direct, Epsco are the merited facilities in the Department.
