The inspiration for
establishing the Community College came from the American
Community Colleges which play a key role in manpower development of
America
and the consequent astonishing economic progress. It is reported that
nearly
60 per cent of the Higher Secondary School leavers prefer to enroll
themselves
in the American Community Colleges and only the remaining people enter
into
the Four Year liberal arts institutions and the Universities. The
Community
Colleges in America have demonstrated that the manpower needed at the
lower
and the middle levels of various sectors of economic activity can be
easily
prepared by the Community Colleges. These institutions are two year
Under
Graduate institutions providing skill based and employment oriented
education.

to those who are denied
access to other forms of education
- to provide job oriented courses based on the
perceived community demand for
specific manpower
- to offer facilities for training and retraining of
Government servants and
the other workers in the organised sectors
- to initiate socially relevant and community based
research projects
