Studies Got You Stressed Out? Here Are 14 Tips To Help You Cope!

Knowledge is power.

We heard this phrase at least once in our lives, and education gives us knowledge about everything that surrounds us, from the sky to the earth, to air we breathe, and to the animal around us.

Education is the not only thing that gives us knowledge; personal experiences played a significant role, but, without education, you cannot convert the information or skills you gained through knowledge.

Here are the 14 tips for coping up with school stress:

Do Not Ever Skip Meals

Most students run late and skip their breakfast, that’s a big NO. Breakfast is an essential meal that you should not skip. Why? Your brain needs a lot of glucose to improve your concentration. The brain uses up about half of the body’s energy when studying. Avoid eating junk foods, and have nutritious food instead. “A balanced diet that includes lots of fiber helps keep your gut system running efficiently by helping to support a more diverse gut microbiome.” A reminder from John M. Grohol, Psy.D.

You Need Adequate Sleep

Cramming is typical among students, pulling an all-nighter for the exam the next day. This will stress your brain more and made you forget what you studied. Studying in advance, and have enough sleep will make you remember the things that you read. “Sleep can restore your mind and body. The immune system repairs itself and the brain rests and recharges while you sleep. Without enough sleep, you can’t function at your best.” Dr. Aaron Kaplan, PsyD, Clinical Psychologist added. Experts say that it would be best to consider from 5 in the morning up until ten. You can also study at night, from 5 in the afternoon until nine. Early morning is a time when there is minimal movement of any form. Your brain is in its relaxed state.

Create A Timetable And Follow It

You have at least eight subjects, and you have limited time to study, and you know which subject to consider first. As a student, you should be responsible enough to have time management, and following effectively following it is an essential part of being a student.

Go For Smart Targets

You are still a student, so keep your goals achievable. You should know precisely what you need to achieve – research paper, a passing examination score, and what you expect to gain from achieving it.

Start Studying Yesterday

DO NOT CRAM! Review your lessons every night after school, and it will help you remember what your class discussed throughout the day. Do not wait for a day before the exam to open and review your notes.

Give Yourself A Break

“Whether you suffer from seasonal affective disorder or not, the evidence is strong that getting outside just for a little bit can be very helpful.” says Andrea Bonior, PhD, clinical psychologist. Take a Walk. Get outside and get some fresh air. Moving your body helps the blood in your brain flow evenly. Studying requires sitting in the same position for an extended period, take some time to stretch your muscles. It will help you relax. Eat healthy snacks, preferably sweets, glucose helps your brain focus and work more.

Do The Things You Love

Phone a friend, or talk to the people you meet at the par while having a short walk, it will help your brain relax from the intense amount of studying you have done.

Exercise Too

Sitting for an extended period can detriment both our physical and mental health. Exercising helps the excellent supply of fresh air active in our brain. Jumping jacks, squats, walk up the stairs, shoulder shrugs, and incline push-ups are some of the exercises you can do in your study break to ease the tension of your muscles.

Meditation Can Help

Meditate in a calm and quiet room, revitalize your mind and body, and it can absorb more information. Try to focus on some breathing exercises while meditating, and free your mind of any thoughts or worries. “Meditation is not just relaxing, but to be keenly aware of the present moment while not interfering with mental activities that revolve around our little self.” Andrea F. Polard, PsyD explained.

Decide On Your Timetable

You should avoid studying on our beds; the soft bed will incite us to fall asleep instead! You should study at your table, and avoid placing your phone near you. There’s a time when to eat or call your friends. But, focus on studying where you re on it.

Learn Concepts

Memorization isn’t the most effective way to learn, and rote learning can be repetitive, easy for you to lose focus, and it may result in the wrong impression or understanding a concept.

You should understand the concept thoroughly, focus on the outcome of the learning process, and relates the new information to your prior knowledge.

Stay Positive With Your Plans

Sometimes, things won’t go well as planned, don’t be discouraged from trying again, and having patience.

Study with your friends

Group studying can sometimes help you learn more, you can learn from your friends, and they can learn from you, but remember to be mindful t the numbers of people involved, because sometimes, your friends can also become your distractions from your studies.

Handle Stress Wisely

Don’t stress yourself too much. Keep that motivation going to reach your goals. Divert yourself from stress if you feel it creeping in. How? You can do other productive things to convert the negative into positive pressure.

2016 Hampton Heritage Symposium: How To Avoid Causing Harm Through Racial Appropriation

When the organizers of the 2016 Hampton Heritage Symposium sent us an invitation to participate in this event, we thought that it was the perfect opportunity to learn about different cultures. Despite many countries like the United States being known as a melting pot for people from various origins, after all, there are still a lot more folks who remain unaware of the challenges that immigrants experience. Some even end up committing racial appropriation while trying hard to “honor” other cultures.

In case you are afraid of making the same mistake, you need to learn how to avoid causing this problem.

  1. Stop Calling People Exotic

The first thing you need to do is stop using the word “exotic” to describe a person of color. In your head, it may sound like a positive compliment for how unique that individual looks in comparison with the rest of you. However, you are also singling him or her out effectively instead of allowing the man or woman to feel as if he or she belongs to the group.

  1. Steer Clear Of Labeling Folks Based On Their Race

When you look at how non-White people get introduced in mainstream media, you tend to hear things like “She is the first Asian girl to host a morning show” or “He is the first Black person to get a nomination for this category.” Although many are proud of these achievements in a White-dominated realm, you are also unconsciously giving labels, which are highly unnecessary when you hold the same citizenship. It is best to steer clear of doing so if you wish to be fair to everyone.

  1. Avoid Taking Part In Social Experiments

Have you seen some YouTube personalities and celebrities get involved in social experimentations wherein a non-Muslim woman wears a hijab, or a White individual darkens his or her complexion for a day? Their followers may say, “Aw, my idol wants to increase awareness about what I feel.” The problem with it, however, is that you can never understand what someone goes through by being in his or her shoes for 24 hours. It can honestly seem disrespectful to the rest of the people in that community; that’s why you should avoid taking part in such experiments.

Let’s all help end racial appropriation today to give kids a better future.

Causes Of Stress Especially Among Students In India

The National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans) researched the increasing suicide cases in India among students to indicate the World Suicide Prevention Day observed on September 10. The study has shown that approximately 11 percent of students in college and about 7 to 8 percent of students in high school have attempted killing themselves. The survey is composed of 1,500 school and college students.

It was also discovered that 20 percent of the children are almost depressed, and approximately 30 percent had depression, which ranges from mild to moderate.

Various Incidents Are Often Caused By Stress From Tests And Study

In an unusual occurrence, a student composed his suicide note in his assessment paper, expressing that he was not able to adapt to the weight of his examinations. A young lady studying for intermediate exams has hacked off her hands by laying them under the wheels of a train. She then passed away because of non-stop bleeding. She explained that she had done seriously in Maths and was reprimanded at home.

“Not all people who have thoughts of suicide end up acting on those thoughts. But for those who do, generally there is deep emotional pain combined with a belief that things will never improve.” Dr. Chantal Gagnon PhD LMHC.

Some Of The Reasons

Let us investigate to check whether there are some different reasons aside from tests. Here is a couple of them:

1. Contradiction among mental and physical formative changes

In an exploration paper – Stress Level and Coping Strategies of College Students – that was distributed in the Journal of Physical Education and Sports Management, and the creators made an intriguing point. They proposed that as the students experience physical and mental improvement during their school period, a few may see that their psychological advancement is contrary to their physical progress, or so far as that is concerned mental advancement being incongruent with their social environment. Thus, they start to experience the ill effects of issues that rise up because of deficient adjustments.

“A stressful change in life patterns can trigger a depressive episode. Such stressful events may include a serious loss, a difficult relationship, trauma, or financial problems.” –Ben Martin, Psy.D.

The paper proceeds to further include that these issues would then prompt mental issues on students.

2. We are putting a lot of weight on them by performing various tasks that many are not ready to adapt with

The general improvement of kids today is ahead of what it used to be decades back. Likewise, it is beneficial to note that various kids have numerous methods for responding to circumstances. While some may take stress in their pace, others may feel troubled.

3. Role of peers as stress-buster is inaccessible today

Two years back, the Indian Institutes of Technology had got into a drive to comprehend the different pressure causing highlights in their students. One of the key issues that surfaced was students’ developing closeness with PCs. The youngsters remain, for the most part, mainly limited to their PCs, because of which collaboration among students is decreasing. The issues that prior could have been comprehended through talking with companions currently remain inside themselves, which at that point gradually develop into more concerning issues.

4. Parents turning kids as a way of making their unfulfilled dreams a reality

It is the goal of parents to see their kids exceed expectations in all things. All the while, the parents start to gradually put weight on the youngsters to point higher each time – be it in their academics or some other movement. While this is great, the issue starts when there is a jumble in desires. The parents may need the kids to perform in a specific way while the kid may discover their bringing in some other areas. It is then that this demeanor ends up undesirable.

“Examine your expectations based on your own childhood and adjust as needed.” –Cynthia Ridgway, MA, LMHC, NCC, DCC

Would it be a good idea for us to do the matter of talking about stress or attempting to prevent it?

Steps are being taken toward avoidance of stress. Numerous establishments, universities, and schools are paying attention to stress management and have included it in their educational programs. A couple of years back, the Indian Institutes of Management had welcomed Kathak maestro Birju Maharaj to clarify the job of music and dance as a stress reliever. Birju Maharaj proceeded to include that music and dance can surely help monitor profession objectives in a profoundly focused condition.

Last 2006, the CBSE had started projects to handle depression in youngsters. They had tied up with the Vidyasagar Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (VIMHANS) to set up the educational program. The main point was to focus on the emotional wellness of a kid since that was the primary way a kid can be guaranteed perfect general development.

While organizations center around tasks and activities, mainly because that is the thing that foundations are practically speaking of, families and parents can make precious commitments as far as anticipating the causation components of stress from happening to their kids. That is if we care for the psychological and physical strength of our kids for a steady life ahead of them.

What each parent ought to do, first and last, is to become understanding to the child. At that point, be its source of power. Furthermore, instill trust. Give the child a chance to be without anyone else. It is about your kid exceeding expectations throughout everyday life, not only in school!
